Sexual Health

Reproduction and Fertility - Sexual Health - Special Collection

Sexual health is defined by the World Health Organisation as a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity.  As a branch of medicine and health sciences, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) generally encompasses clinical and psychosocial topics related to contraception, abortion, sexually transmitted diseases, sexual problems and other related topics.  SRH is one of the basic needs of human life and well-being, and is an important and essential public health topic which is given one of the top priorities globally.  Under this concept, all individuals should be entitled to reproductive rights to make their own informed decisions about family planning and sexuality.

Over the years, tremendous improvements in contraception, abortion care and management of other sexual health problems have been made possible from research work conducted worldwide.  However, there are still unmet needs, for which ongoing studies are needed to provide new insights to further improve contraceptive and abortion methods.

In this collection, we welcome both original research and review articles on either clinical or translational topics related to SRH to bring new ideas from the bench to bedside to the hands of people.

The collection is hosted by Associate Editor, Dr. Raymond Li and Guest Editor Prof. Kristina Gemzell-Danielsson.

"We anticipate that a review of the current research evidence as well as new research findings from clinical and translational studies will bring new ideas from the bench to bedside to the hands of people for improving their sexual and reproductive health" - Collection Editors
